When Was The Last Time You Read A Good Book?

One thing that we need to do a better job of doing is setting time aside to read a decent book that entertains or helps us. It’s hard to do since we spend a lot of time at our jobs and glued to the screens on our TVs and phones. These are not bad themselves but they take time away from what can be a useful and entertaining pastime.

I know this struggle because I work a full time job, I try to be active in my church, and I want to spend time with my family and friends. Reading helps me to take a little time to myself and learn while I’m doing it.

I think one of the reasons I enjoy reading so much was that my parents would read stories to my sister and I. We had this big book with a collection of classic stories that we loved hearing from them. In middle school, I began to read a lot about WWII and American history. Sometimes the books I read could be funny like one book I read in 6th grade called The Day My Butt Went Psycho. Yes that’s a real book…In college I read a lot for classes but not so much for pleasure. This made reading a bit of a turn off for me at that time. If I spent so much time reading for school, why would I do it when I didn’t have to?

I have dozens of books on my bookshelf that I haven’t read yet. I know I need to get to read them someday. I’ve tried to get back into reading even more than I do now but it is a struggle. If anyone knows a trick or way to read faster or speed read, I will be happy to hear about it. If anyone has any book recommendations, please feel free to let me know!
