Thoughts On Bacon

There is some food I like that goes well with almost anything. Bacon is undeniably one of those. It is versatile in the recipes it can go in and tastes great because of its salty (but not too salty) and moist texture. Personally, I like my bacon crispy but I’ll eat it even if it’s not cooked that way.

Bacon can be put in: quiche, burgers, hot dogs, fries, grits, pizza, and even salad and much more. Bacon also fits well since it can be wrapped around some food. I’ve had pork tenderloins and steak wrapped in bacon and they are to die for! One of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is poached eggs on English muffins with bacon, cheese, and hot sauce. When I cook bacon I like to let the grease from it dry up so that I can put it on a piece of toast or bread later. I learned about that from when my grandmother told me that her dad used to do that. Don’t knock it till you try it…

My only frustration with bacon is that it is a little annoying to have to cook. You have to let it thaw, get a tray, put aluminum foil on the tray, lay it on the tray, and put it in the oven for 20-30 minutes. Waiting sucks when you’re hungry and you’re craving something. That’s why when I cook bacon I cook a lot of it.

Ladies, they say that the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. This is easily accomplished with bacon.

A big reason why I like bacon so much is that I did not have it for so long when I lived in Saudi Arabia. They do not allow pork to be bought or sold there, so since I never had a lot of it I never learned to enjoy it. When I went to boarding school and then college I realized what I was missing. Now I can never have too much bacon.
